ChatGPT Aces Google’s Coding Interview for Level 3 Engineering Position With a Salary Of $183K/year

Man working at his computer: will ChatGPT become a great coder?
ChatGPT and Google AI News, Updates and More from The Dept of Next

Google recently tested the AI language model ChatGPT with its coding interview questions, and based on the answers, determined that ChatGPT would be hired for a Level 3 engineering position, according to an internal document. The test was part of Google’s recent investigation into AI chatbots that it may add to its site. The ability of ChatGPT to provide a high-fidelity answer to questions could save users time searching for information.

Although ChatGPT passed the technical questions of the interview, the platform’s inability to handle behavioral questions, which are often used for leadership roles, may prevent it from becoming a full replacement for software engineers. ChatGPT responded to PCMag’s question on whether it would ever replace software engineers by stating that it cannot completely replace the creativity, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking abilities of a human software engineer. ChatGPT also mentioned that it still requires human supervision and direction to operate effectively.

The impact of AI on the software engineering industry remains to be seen, but the use of ChatGPT by software engineers is becoming more popular. Based on comments on Reddit posts about the subject, many engineers are using ChatGPT to replace time spent searching for coding solutions on popular sites like Stack Overflow and to generate small snippets of code. However, not all engineers are satisfied with ChatGPT’s skills, and its sometimes verbose, nonsensical answers.
