Google DeepMind and World Labs have each unveiled innovative AI tools that enable the creation of immersive 3D environments from simple text and image prompts, creating massive new potential for creating games and interactive experiences.
World Labs, founded by AI expert Fei-Fei Li, introduced its 3D “world generation” model, which transforms static images into navigable 3D scenes. This advancement allows users to control the environment using keyboard and mouse, paving the way for new possibilities in game design, filmmaking, and simulations.
The AI tools not only generate 3D spaces but also allow for the addition of effects and virtual camera controls, enhancing the user experience. Early testers have reported that these tools can significantly reduce the time required to build 3D environments, facilitating faster brainstorming and ideation processes. Although the 3D scene builder is still in a preview phase and not yet commercially available, its potential impact on content creation is already evident.

In a separate announcement, DeepMind introduced Genie 2, a foundational model capable of generating dynamic, interactive 3D environments. This successor to the original Genie model can create playable 3D worlds that maintain consistency over time, enabling users to navigate and interact within these virtual spaces.
